Just like with Garmin watches, the OpenSwim app is fully compatible with the Apple Watch! And here’s the best part: you don’t even need to download a specific OpenSwim app onto your watch! Everything runs directly through Apple’s native apps. Pure stream, no wasted motion!
Here is everything you need to know to connect your watch in less than 3 minutes and enjoy full compatibility.

New Feature: Send your workouts directly to your watch.
You can now export your OpenSwim sessions and programs to track them in real time right from your wrist while you swim.
- How does it work? Go to the Apple page inside the OpenSwim app and toggle on the first option. This will connect OpenSwim to the Fitnessapp on your iPhone.
- Where can you find your sessions? Your workouts and programs will appear directly under the Workouts tab in the Fitness app on your iPhone, and they will instantly sync to your Apple Watch (also inside the watch’s Fitness app).
Automatic sync
Once the connection between the Health and OpenSwim applications has been established, synchronization is automatic. With the first sync, your swim workouts from the last 30 days are synchronized in the app.
To sync new activities, swim with your Apple Watch, and save your workout. It will be automatically sent to the Health app. From then on, your data is available in the OpenSwim app, and you can view all your workouts in the Activities tab, via “My activity history”.
If you find that a workout has not been imported after swimming, return to the Apple page and click on the “Sync Apple” button to update your data.
Finally, you can read your workout directly on your watch. Simply choose an OpenSwim workout and send it to your watch so you can view it while you swim. For more details, check out our dedicated article.
Enjoy your training with the OpenSwim app!
