Paris 2024 – Swimming Events Calendar

Swimming at the Olympics

Swimming and the Olympics share and old history. Freestyle and breaststroke events were introduced at the 1st modern Olympic Games in 1896. At that time, the events were held in open water. It wasn’t until 1908 and the London Olympics that swimming events were held in a pool for the first time.

Since then, swimming has a rich history at the Olympic, from the first women’s events in 1912 to the addition of butterfly events in 1956.
