Interview with Pierre

OpenSwim (OS): Hi Pierre, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Pierre Tortereau (PT): My name is Pierre Tortereau. I’m a swim coach specialized in training adults, triathletes, and recreational swimmers. I’m a former national-level swimmer and have coached dozens of athletes competing at the highest level in France—many regularly finishing in the top 5 of their age categories.

OS: In your coaching, you highlight a specific training method. Can you tell us more about it?

PT: I created the Sensory Method, which is inspired by the principles of Raymond Catteau—the greatest swimming technician in the French-speaking world. Through this approach, I analyze the technique of the world’s best swimmers and adapt it for each athlete to improve their catch, rotation, and glide.

OS: What exactly is the Sensory Method?

PT: It’s a method based on sensations and precise sensory markers—visual, tactile, auditory, and proprioceptive. It helps swimmers make progress without necessarily having to “swim more” or grind through exhausting sets. The idea is to rediscover both pleasure and efficiency in the water.

OS: What does it bring to swimmers?

PT: In my opinion, it offers four main benefits:

  1. Greater fluidity.
  2. Less fatigue.
  3. Faster times without forcing it (in 90% of cases 😉).
  4. And most importantly, the feeling of being truly “in harmony” with the water.

OS: Who is it for?

PT: The method works for a wide range of swimmers: adults who started swimming later in life, triathletes looking to optimize their swim time without draining their energy, and generally anyone who wants to feel good and balanced in the water.

OS: Why collaborate with OpenSwim?

PT: I think OpenSwim and I share the same goal: to make swimming more accessible by connecting passionate coaches with a broad community of swimmers. Together, we want to make swimming more fluid, enjoyable, and inclusive.

OS: Do you offer personalized or individual coaching?

PT: Yes, absolutely. I provide individual online coaching with unlimited video analysis, as well as small-group training camps in pools and swim treks across Europe.

For swimmers who are interested, you can learn more on my website or contact me directly by email. I also have a YouTube channel where I share tips to help swimmers refine their technique.
